Premier to Speak at World Energies Summit in United Kingdom

CANADA, September 28 - Premier Tim Houston will be speaking to global oil and gas sector leaders and decision-makers this week about Nova Scotia’s potential to provide solutions to their energy needs.

The Premier is attending the World Energies Summit in London, United Kingdom, a global conference focused on upstream priorities in the oil and gas industry. It brings together governments, energy companies and investors to discuss opportunities and developments across global energy markets, including spotlighting breakthrough projects, bold strategies and impactful partnerships shaping the future of global energy.

“Nova Scotia is paving the way for major projects and new trade opportunities at a time when the world is searching for stable and reliable trade partners and energy sources,” said Premier Houston. “The world needs to know that Nova Scotia is ready to do business. We’re ready to develop our natural resources safely and responsibly, so we can unlock our potential, defend our sovereignty and protect families from a global affordability crisis.”

Premier Houston will deliver remarks on energy security in an era of strategic competition and meet with energy leaders during the two-day mission Tuesday and Wednesday, September 29-30.

Since the Premier attended last year’s summit, Nova Scotia’s energy files have been gaining momentum, including:

two of Nova Scotia’s offshore parcels attracted bids totalling $210 million to explore for oil and natural gas
the federal government agreed to Premier Houston’s request for a regional assessment for offshore oil and gas exploration and expects to complete it by the end of this year
the Province, in partnership with Dalhousie University, launched a $30-million Subsurface Energy Research and Development Investment Program to evaluate what onshore natural gas resources Nova Scotia has and how to produce it responsibly
the Province released Wind West, a plan to develop Canada’s first offshore wind energy projects; at least eight proponents have pre-qualified to participate in the regulator’s upcoming call for bids, and work is underway with Hydro-Québec, the state of Massachusetts and other partners to advance planning on transmission and supply arrangements
the Province signed an agreement with the federal government for a streamlined one project, one review model when a project requires both a federal impact assessment and a provincial environmental assessment.
